NFPA awards John J. O’Sullivan, the current President of the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO), the prestigious Paul C. Lamb Award
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) honoured John J. O’Sullivan with the esteemed 2010 Paul C. Lamb Award. This award is given for volunteer service and is the highest given by the NFPA. The Lamb award was presented at the NFPA’s 2010 Conference & Expo in Las Vegas on 7th June 2010.
The award is given in honor of Paul C. Lamb and is a tribute to his legacy of service to the NFPA and to the cause of fire safety. It is only awarded to those that have provided service to NFPA that characterizes the height of volunteer spirit and deed. It recognizes leadership skills, tact and diplomacy, straightforwardness, professional integrity, and active dedication to the goals of the NFPA. To date, only 19 individuals have received the award since its inception in 1980.
John J. O’Sullivan retired from his job as fire protection manager at British Airways in 2006, a position that he held for 18 years. He now works as a principle technical fire consultant for Bureau Veritas UK & Ireland. O’Sullivan has a 24-year history of service and dedication to the NFPA, having served as a volunteer on several committees, including the Standards Council from 1997 to 2002, the Aircraft Fuel Servicing Technical Committee from 1986 to 2006, and the Board of Directors from 2004 to the present.
The NFPA has been a worldwide leader in providing fire, electrical, building, and life safety to the public since 1896. The mission of the international nonprofit organization is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.
